John Gary (1932-1998) was one of the greatest singers you've never heard of. His 3-octave range and seemingly endless breath control made him the singer's singer. John Gary sang in movies, on Broadway, had his own television show, and appeared at Carnegie Hall. He appeared 30 times as a guest of the Tonight Show. He gave 400 community concerts. So why is John Gary obscure? Unfortunately his career peaked at the same time as the Beatles, who swamped so many musicians in the '60s.
