Anita Bryant (born 1940) is a popular American singer, former "Miss Oklahoma" beauty contest winner and brand spokesperson. She began singing on stage from the age of 6. After successfully appearing on radio and TV, she began recording albums, having hits with several songs, including 'Till There Was You' in 1959, 'Paper Roses' in 1960 and 'Wonderland By Night' in 1961, each selling over a million copies. On becoming spokeswoman for the Florida Citrus Commission in 1969, Bryant appeared in commercials for Coca-Cola, Kraft Foods, Tupperware and Holiday Inn. By 1980, she was hosting her own TV show called "The Anita Bryant Spectacular", appearing in a film documentary called "Roger and Me" and traveling to Michigan to aid efforts in improving the then-unstable economy. After the 1980s, mainly due to her strong political beliefs, Bryant's musical career significantly declined. In 2005, Bryant returned to live in her home state of Oklahoma, where she continues to reside, undertaking charity work for youth organizations.
